Portrait of Beatrice Cenci
This painting is a fine quality early 19th century version of the famous original by the Old Master painter Guido Reni (1575 – 1642).
Paintings of this quality were painted by highly accomplished artists working in either Florence or Rome. Their work was intended for the wealthy British visitors on the ‘Grand Tour’.
Beatrice Cenci (1577–1599) was an Italian noblewoman of the late Renaissance whose tragic and romantic story inspired many artists and writers including Percy Shelley.
Presented in good 19th century Italian hand-carved and gilded frame.
