Henry Brittan Willis was a leading 19th century British landscape painter. He is known as a fine painter of sheep and cows. He was born in Bristol and studied under his father the artist G. W. Willis. In 1842 he emigrated to the United States but owing to ill health he returned to London where he gained a considerable reputation as a painter of cattle in landscape. He exhibited fron 1844 to 1883 mainly at the Royal Academy and at the British Institution in Pall Mall. Willis was elected as a member of the Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1863.
